Post 68 Calling Tree Exercise Underway
The leadership of Post 68 is exercising the Post Calling Tree (aka "Buddy Check") to confirm/update membership contact details. If you receive and email or phone call on this, please respond prior to the September Membership meeting on Septermber 19th.
Post 68 RESCHEDULED Fish Fry is Scheduled for Sept 21st:
“You Can’t Fool Mother Nature”
Hurricane Dorian has impacted our Fish Fry Fundraiser originally scheduled for September 7 at North Brunswick High School (NBHS). With the Brunswick County declaration of a State of Emergency in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian, NBHS has been designated a hurricane shelter. With the many activities required to prepare for the storm we don’t want our event to interfere in any way.
The good news is that we are able to reschedule the Fish Fry for Saturday, September 21st at NBHS from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. So, hang onto your tickets and come out on the 21st for some great food: fish, beans, hush puppies, slaw, iced tea or water, and dessert, all for just $10.00.
If you haven’t bought your advance tickets to the Fish Fry, come visit the Post 68 booth at the Leland Founders’ Day Celebration at Town Hall Park on September 14. Tickets will also be available the day of the Fish Fry. If you already have a ticket for the Fish Fry on the 7th and are unable to attend the Fish Fry on the 21st, please contact John Hacker at (949) 275-3247, or jveteran13@gmail.com, about a refund.
All proceeds from the Fish Fry will support Post 68 scholarships for North Brunswick High School students, JROTC, and other American Legion sponsored student programs.
>Notice Regarding Possible Political Activity Near The American Legion Post 68 Fish Fry this Saturday at North Brunswick High School.
It has come to Post 68’s attention that Mr. Louis Harmati, a current candidate for the Leland Town Council, has announced that he will be holding a Meet and Greet at the Fish Fry. Mr. Harmati has been informed that campaigning for political office at or near any American Legion sponsored event is not allowed per the American Legion’s status as a non-partisan, non-profit organization. American Legion Post 68 Leland does not support, endorse nor approve of any political candidate for any office.

Legion Act Now Expanded LET VETS KNOW:
Congress and the White House agreed to expand definition of war eras to include all who served since Dec. 7, 1941. The Let Everyone Get Involved In Opportunities for Service (LEGION) Act has been signed.
More than 1,600 members of the U.S. Armed Forces were killed or wounded in periods of time not designated as war eras since the end of World War II. The newly signed Let Everyone Get Involved in Opportunities for National Service Act of 2019 – The LEGION Act – honors those veterans, their spouses and descendants, extending membership eligibility in The American Legion Family to hundreds of thousands who had previously been excluded.
The LEGION Act offers American Legion membership eligibility to any U.S. military veteran who served at least one day of active military duty since Dec. 7, 1941, and was honorably discharged or is serving now. The act also affects membership in the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion, expanding eligibility for those groups, as well. Further details along with American Legion offical press release available @ LINK.
President Donald J. Trump signs S. 504, the Let Everyone Get Involved in Opportunities for National Service (LEGION) Act Tuesday, July 30, 2019, in the Oval Office of the White House. (Official White House Photo by Tia Dufour)

The Port City has been selected as one of the hosts for a 2019 Navy Week, according to a release from the Navy Office of Community Outreach. Navy Week, which will bring “sailors from across the country” to Wilmington from April 1-7, is the Navy’s outreach program and allows “the Navy to build and strengthen ties to the community,”the release said. The week will feature senior leadership from the military branch, sailors serving on the U.S.S. Linda Rojas, director of the Navy Office of Community Outreach. Navy Weeks focus a variety of outreach assets, equipment and personnel on a single city for a week-long series of engagements with key influencers and organizations representing all sectors of the market, the release stated. The Port City has hosted the commissioning of Naval vessels in the past, including the U.S.S. North Carolina submarine in 2008 and the U.S.S. Gravely destroyer in 2010.
